Not the best day ever...

We found out today that Griffin has a severe allergy to peanuts at the allergist. We had suspected this by the way he broke out in rashes and hives anytime someone ate or touched peanuts and then touched or kissed him. The allergist confirmed it with a simple test today and we also learned he is allergic to cats. (If anyone knows a good home for a sweet cat named Lucy, let us know) However, its one thing to be allergic to cats, another to have a "severe reaction", as the doc said, to nuts. We are pretty much petrified at this point and desperately wishing we could take the allergy ourselves rather than our son. We know we have many years of label reading, Epi-pen and warning symptoms training for ANYONE who watches him and many other frustrations but at the same time we feel lucky... we found out before he was able to ever ingest nuts that he has this severe allergy. Many people don't find this kind of thing out until they are in an emergency room because their child stopped breathing. For that, we are blessed. We also know he is not allergic to things like milk, soy, wheat or eggs, all of which are in just about everything. We are completely overwhelmed right now but we know God is watching over our favorite little man and peanuts will never get too close to him as long as we can help it.

Oh Erica, I am so sorry. That is a scary thing. You and Scott will be on top of it though. God is watching, I have no doubt that he will keep him safe. Hang in there. Happy Birthday! Can't wait to see you Saturday.
